How to prepare for your boudoir session

We want you to be prepared for your boudoir photo shoot and that doesn’t mean scouring Pinterest necessarily for photos you want to replicate. Put a little trust in your photographer that she will come up with beautiful shots that flatter your body type and assets. So, what are some of the MOST important things you can do before your boudoir portrait session to prepare for the big day?

1. Get a good nights sleep and stay hydrated! It’s very important to be well rested so you don’t have bags under your eyes. Staying hydrated the day before your shoot means your skin will glow naturally and your eyes will look big and bright.

2. Try on your outfits! This is important because many of us have very sexy lingerie that’s been sitting in our drawers and may not be the best fit any more. It’s a great idea to try on some of your favourite pieces before you come in, that way if things aren’t fitting the way they used to you have plenty of opportunity to go shopping!

3. Go shopping. This doesn’t mean you should break the bank on lots of new pieces, but it’s fun to shop for your shoot and rock some brand new lace! If you’ve booked your shoot with a special someone in mind, it’s always a nice surprise for them to see something they’ve never seen before in your shots. Plus, wearing brand new lingerie will make you feel like a  model!

Sexy Saturday – Why you should do something courageous!

Hello lovelies,

I get to meet a lot of women doing boudoir photography and one of the first questions I will ask is “Are you excited for your shoot?”. Nine out of ten responses is something along the lines of “Yes… but soooo nervous!”

I have actually come to expect this answer and I usually give them a big smile and say that it’s normal to feel that way. Such an honest response makes me feel so excited for our clients because even though they are INCREDIBLY out of their comfort zone, they still show up. I love that!!

It’s so empowering to do something courageous, like boudoir. It keeps life from getting stale and mundane. By doing something courageous, you’re challenging the idea you have of yourself and then growing as a person because you elevated the bar. You’re a different person from yourself five years ago because of your EXPERIENCES, not your hair colour or your wardrobe.

Imagine you’re writing a book about your life. Would anyone want to read this novel?

I think the answer will be “damn right they would!” if you continue to challenge yourself and break out of those boring and easy comfort zones. You only get one life so you better fill up that novel with adventures, little or big. Don’t let it get stale.

Miss E’s Maternity Shoot and Newborn Session

We first met Miss E in December of 2016 and it was love at first sight. Her infectious smile and positive attitude made her a pleasure to photograph during her Maternity shoot. Her photos are so gorgeous, what a special moment in time captured in photos.

Months later she contacted us- its a boy! We couldn’t wait to get her back in the studio for  ‘Mommy & Me’ photo session with her handsome little man. We have never felt so much love in one room, and it truly shows in her images.

Why are you afraid of boudoir?

Boudoir photography forces us to push our body issues aside and embrace every curve, wrinkle and stretch mark. So many women are apprehensive about doing boudoir because they think they aren’t fit enough, busty enough, thin enough, tanned enough, sexy enough… the list goes on! This isn’t surprising considering the state of the media and the images of women being pushed in front of our eyes consistently throughout our daily lives. But that needs to change.

What boudoir allows is for YOU to be the model. Boudoir is so special because it is real women in front of the camera, with nothing but their insecurities holding them back from becoming the sexy vixen they are. I understand being nervous before a shoot because it’s so completely out of the normal daily routine to get half naked in front of a camera, but that’s what makes it so liberating.

Trashy magazines and television shows have taught us it’s OK to judge other women but it’s so NOT. We have become increasingly afraid to be exposed and vulnerable but it’s not really our fault. Boudoir forces us to confront those fears. If you’re afraid to do a shoot keep in mind that every woman feels that same way. I can’t think of a safer place than the boudoir studio!

Miss A’s Maternity Shoot

Miss A came to us when she was about 6 months pregnant to commemorate her very first baby bump! She was a joy to have in the studio, and with her due date just around the corner, we can’t wait to meet her little bundle of joy. Here’s what Miss A had to say about her experience at the Lux Portrait Studio:

“I cannot thank the girls at Lux Portraiture enough. Pregnancy is a beautiful experience, but it can also be very trying. Your body is changing. Your emotions take you on a roller coaster ride. And you are preparing for your life to change in a big way.”

“Sometimes, it’s difficult to look on the bright side…and sometimes you definitely don’t feel like your pre-pregnancy self. Lindsay made me feel and look beautiful…and getting all dolled up and trying out different poses was so much fun! When I got my images back, I was in awe of them! They turned out amazing, and I am so excited to frame two of my favourites!” “My session was an incredible experience, one that I will look back fondly on in the years to come. I am so happy that I did something like this to document my growing belly and changing life. The girls at Lux made it so easy, and I will definitely book them for my future photo shoots (maybe even one with baby)! Thank you a million times!”Thanks Miss A! We are so happy you have these beautiful photos to look back on during this special time in your life.
